The Journeymen Fall Classic is one of the toughest rooms in the country. State champions, national placers, and kids who have already been on a world team. Luca Seramone (DMA), Gabe Campanelli (Salesianum), Santino Sianni (Salesianum), and Dominic Spennato (Salesianum) travelled to Up State New York to wrestle the field.

THE DAY IN BRIEF

Luca Seramone at 113. 3–2. He beat a Virginia state champion, a New England champion, and a New York placer. He lost to a U17 world champion and to the 113 champion.

Gabe Campanelli at 130. 2–3. He majored an NHSCA All-American and New England Prep champion, then beat a Nevada 16U national-team wrestler. The losses were a New Jersey state placer, a California Masters bronze, and a California state placer.

Santino Sianni went 2–3 at 160. He pinned a two-time New York state placer. He took a forfeit from a Connecticut State Open runner-up and New England champion. The losses were a New Jersey state bronze, a Florida state runner-up ranked nationally, and a Fargo 16U All-American.

Dominic Spennato went 0–4 at 152. He drew a New York state champion, an Eastern States placer, a New Jersey qualifier, and a Minnesota 16U freestyle bronze.

SERAMONE GOES 3-2

DMA’s Luca Seramone, the 2026 Delaware state champion at 106, moved up to 113 for Sea Wolves. Contested record: 3–2.

The wins were the ones that matter.

11–6 over Cayden Clark (Great Bridge, VA) — 2026 Virginia 5A state champion at 106. Quarterfinal.

6–5 over Samuel Floody (Scituate, RI / Mayo Quanchi) — 2026 Rhode Island state runner-up and New England champion at 106.

3–2 over Evan Gomez (Valley Central, NY / KD Training Center) — 2026 New York D1 7th at 103, 2025 state qualifier.

The other side of 113 was as hard as it gets.

Tech fall, 16–1 in 2:34, to Nelson Villafane (Mat Assassins / West Scranton). Villafane is the 2026 U17 World freestyle champion at 45 kg for Puerto Rico, a six-time Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling champion, and the 2025 USA Wrestling Kids Folkstyle Nationals 14U champion and Outstanding Wrestler. Incoming freshman. Super 32 qualifier.

Tech fall, 21–6 in 4:27, to Joseph Colardo (Top Flight, Cranston, RI). Colardo is a 2025 Super 32 qualifier and the 2025 Rhode Island middle school state champion at 88.

Three decisions over medalists. He had the best Delaware showing.

CAMPANELLI GOES 2-3

Gabe Campanelli, Salesianum’s two-time Delaware state champion, went 2–3 at 130.

10–0 major over Jax Sgrulletta (Greens Farms Academy, CT) — 2026 NHSCA Freshman All-American (6th at 126) and 2026 New England Prep champion at 113.

6–3 over Bronx Hanlon (ATC / Faith Lutheran, NV) — Nevada 16U Fargo roster.

The losses were close, and they were against placers.

Fall, 5–3 in 2:57, to Massimo Ortiz (Arete / Servite, CA) — 2026 CIF-SS Masters 3rd at 126 and California state qualifier.

5–4 to Robert Rodriguez (Rednose / North Bergen, NJ) — 2026 New Jersey 6th at 120 (St. Peter’s Prep).

3–1 to Gavin Whatley (Monster Garage) — 2026 California state middle school 5th at 126.

Two wins, three losses, Campanelli stayed in the mix with close matches against a 130-pound bracket that did not give anything away.

SIANNI PINS THE NEW YORK FOURTH

Santino Sianni, Salesianum’s 2026 Delaware state bronze medalist at 157, went 2–3 at 160 for Poore Trained.

The one he earned: fall, 3–3 in 3:29, over Michael McGuinness (Walt Whitman, NY) — 2026 New York D1 4th at 150, 2025 New York 8th at 145.

The other win was a forfeit over Isaiah McDaniel (Middletown, CT / Metro Elite). McDaniel is a 2026 CIAC State Open runner-up, Class L champion, and New England champion at 150.

Then the bracket turned.

Tech fall, 16–1 in 2:56, to Jackson Weller (Seagull / Delran, NJ) — 2026 New Jersey 3rd at 150.

Fall, 3–3 in 2:18, to Kawayran Vazquez Jr. (Jesuit, FL) — 2025 Florida 2A state champion at 157, 2026 Florida 2A runner-up at 165, nationally ranked, Super 32 qualifier.

12–4 major to Lucas Drake (Wyoming Seminary / Abington Heights, PA) — 2026 Fargo 16U All-American (4th at 157), District 2 Class 3A runner-up, Northeast Regional 6th, NHSCA freshman finalist.

Sianni beat a two-time New York placer and drew a New Jersey bronze, a Florida champion, and a Fargo All-American. That is Journeymen 160.

SPENNATO DRAWS THE DEEP END AT 152

Dominic Spennato, Salesianum’s 2026 Delaware state champion at 138, moved up to 152 for Centurian and went 0–4.

Tech fall, 17–2 in 2:47, to Ryan Munn (Greens Farms Academy, CT) — 2026 New York D1 state champion at 144 (Carthage), now at GFA, nationally ranked.

Tech fall, 18–3 in 4:17, to Nicholas Raptis (Willpower / Poly Prep, NY) — Eastern States 7th at 150, Super 32 Early Entry 2026 semifinalist.

4–0 to Anthony Russo (Shore Thing / Red Bank Catholic, NJ) — 2026 New Jersey state qualifier at 150.

16–5 major to Jay Hammarsten (Pinnacle / Stillwater, MN) in the fifth-place match — 2026 Minnesota 16U freestyle 3rd at 144.

Spennato did not get a soft draw at 152.

WHAT THE WEEKEND SAID

Four invitations. Wins over a Virginia champion, a New England champion, a New York placer, an NHSCA All-American, and another New York placer.

The losses were to a world champion, a New York champion, a Florida champion, a New Jersey bronze, California placers, and a Fargo All-American.

Though Delaware didn't take home a medal this year, they had a strong showing and hopefully opened to door to additional invites in the future.
